The bcl-2 Oncogene in Hodgkin’s Disease Arising in the Setting

چکیده
Expression of the bcl-2 proto-oncogene on chromosome 1 8 is deregulated by the 14; 18 chromosomal translocation, an abnormality that is consistently associated with follicular non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas (NHL). Because bcl-2 is believed to function by prolonging cell survival rather than by increasing proliferation, the presence of t(l4; 18) in Hodgkin’s disease (HD) would have profound implications for the pathogenesis of this neoplasm. We evaluated 32 cases of HD for t(l4;18) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). These results were correlated with expression of bcl-2 oncogenic protein by Hodgkin cells and with the presence of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), as determined by immunohistochemistry or in situ hybridization. PCR provided evidence of t(l4; 18) in only 2 HD cases (6%), both of which were associated with a prior history of follicular lymphoma, and

A review of retinoblastoma disease
Retinoblastoma is a rare type of eye cancer that usually occurs in early childhood, usually before the age of five. This type of cancer occurs in the retina, the light-sensitive tissue behind the eye that recognizes light and color. It is the most common type of eye cancer in children. One-third of all retinoblastomas are inherited, meaning that mutations in the RB1 gene are present in all cell...
متن کاملScrofuloderma-Like Lesions in a Patient with Hodgkin’s Disease
A 15-year-old boy presented with several months history of bilateral axillary lymph adenopathies which were ulcerated subsequently. He had received anti-tuberculosis therapy for more than six months based on suspicious diagnosis of scrofuloderma. Histopathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of specific lesions of Hodgkin’s disease. These lesions were probably metastatic due to retrograde...

Bcl-2, a well-known anti-apoptotic gene, promotes cell viability without cell proliferation. Expression of the bcl-2 oncogene is reported in certain low grade neoplasms including Basal Cell Carcinomas(BCCs). Bcl-2 expression in BCCs is contradictory, with 67-100% immunopositivity being reported. The purpose of this study was to evaluate bcl-2 expression in the indolent variants of B...

متن کاملThe levels of Serum Alkaline Phosphatase and Lactate Dehydrogenase in Hodgkin Lymphoma
Background: Hodgkin’s disease (HD) is a neoplastic disease originating in lymphoid tissue, which spreads to lymphoid structures and ultimately nonlymphoid tissues. Lactate Dehydrogenase and Alkaline Phosphatase are increased in blood following membrane cell damage. The aim of this study was to compare Lactate Dehydrogenase and Alkaline Phosphatase levels in children in different stages of Hodg...
